Commat - the Commonwealth
Medical Trust - plays an important role in pan-Commonwealth and international
activities to improve health status through its co-operative promotional
and educational activities with health professional associations and other
health-concerned NGOs working in developing countries. These are mainly
in sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, adolescent health and women's
health, all of which are major causes of morbidity and mortality in the
developing countries of which the Commonwealth predominately consists.
Commat is the leading Commonwealth organization promoting the Right to
Health and the co-ordination of a rights-based approach with the principles
of medical ethics.
The Right to Health: A Resource Manual for NGOs - Written by Judith Asher is an excellent
resource for Indigenous Peoples.

commonwealth association for Indigenous peoples (CAIP)
The Commonwealth Association for Indigenous Peoples formed in 1999. The
Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action (FAIRA)
based in Brisbane are currently coordinating CAIP participation in CHOGM
2007.

The Indigenous Rights in the Commonwealth Project is a three-year research and advocacy project, funded by the EU and DfID. The Project, which commenced in February 2001, is based at the Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit (CPSU), a think-tank located at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, a research institute within the University of London, UK.

Indigenous groups from Commonwealth countries claim the Australian Government has conspired to keep their issues from being discussed at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The Commonwealth is a unique family of 54 developed and developing nations
around the world. It is a voluntary association of independent sovereign
states spread over every continent and ocean. Its 1.7 billion people account
for 30 per cent of the world's population. They are found in every continent
and ocean and are of many religions, races, languages and cultures.
The Commonwealth Secretariat is the principal organisation of the Commonwealth and based in London. Together with its sister organisations, the Commonwealth Foundation and the Commonwealth of Learning (in Canada), the Secretariat is the Commonwealth's own civil service, effectively carrying out the priorities of its 54 member governments.
The Commonwealth does not currently have a policy on or a division within
the Secretariat responsible for Indigenous Peoples issues.

The Commonwealth Foundation is an intergovernmental organisation with a mandate from Commonwealth Heads of Government, the Foundation supports non-governmental organisations (NGOs), professional associations and cultural activities. commonwealth heads of government meeting (CHOGM)
Every two years, the 54 Commonwealth leaders meet in a different Commonwealth
country to discuss matters of common interest and progress initiatives
to benefit the Commonwealth's diverse membership. This summit is called
a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting or CHOGM.
chogm 2007 - uganda
The last Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held in Kampala, Uganda from 23-25 November 2007. The theme for the meeting was ‘Transforming Commonwealth Societies to achieve political, economic and human development’. The next chogm will be in 2009.
